Voice Navigation Help
BearCat voice navigation is a push-to-talk navigation aid. You choose when the microphone listens, and every voice action also has a typed-command alternative.
Getting started
Select Voice navigation in the top-right corner, allow microphone permission if your browser asks, and speak a destination or action. You can also open the panel without starting the microphone and type a command instead.
Useful commands
Try “Take me to onboarding,” “Show me pricing,” “Show me the dentist example,” “Scroll down,” “Next section,” “Where am I?,” “Read this section,” “What can I do here?,” or “Take me back where I was.”
Keyboard alternatives
Press Alt + V to start voice navigation, Alt + H to open command help, / to focus the typed-command box while the panel is open, and Esc to close the panel.
Privacy
Voice navigation is push-to-talk. BearCat does not intentionally keep the microphone continuously active in the background. Browser speech-recognition behavior and microphone permissions are controlled by your browser and operating system. Voice diagnostics do not include recorded audio.
Personalization
The voice panel supports spoken-response speed, recognition-language selection, beginner and advanced command modes, larger controls, larger text, high contrast, favorites, recent commands, confirmation before leaving a page, custom voice shortcuts, selectable spoken-response voices, speech pitch and volume, listening duration, scroll distance, recognition sensitivity, and optional follow-up listening for clarification.
Spoken-response controls
You can choose a supported browser voice, preview it, adjust speech speed, pitch, and volume, and stop speech immediately. BearCat remembers these settings locally on the device.
Test your microphone
Open the voice panel and choose Test my microphone. The test checks for audio input and reports whether the microphone is working, unusually quiet, or not producing meaningful input. If several microphones are available, you can choose one for the diagnostic test. Browser speech recognition may still use the system-default input.
Troubleshooting
If BearCat cannot hear you, check the microphone permission shown in the voice panel, confirm that your device is online, run the microphone test, or use the typed-command box. The diagnostics section can copy technical details for a support report without attaching recorded audio.
What “Try again” means
“Try again” means the most recent command did not complete. It does not mean the website is broken. The panel now distinguishes retryable command problems from an offline state and a blocked microphone, and it offers direct retry and typed-command recovery controls.
When BearCat is unsure
The tool separates “I did not understand you” from “I heard you but I am not sure which command you meant.” When several commands are plausible, BearCat can show up to three alternatives. You can choose one or answer yes or no to a clarification.
Typed command assistance
The typed-command box now shows live command suggestions. Use the up and down arrow keys to move through recent commands, press Escape to clear the box, or select a suggestion directly. The example placeholder changes based on the current page.
Back up your voice settings
The Advanced settings area can copy your local voice preferences as text and restore a compatible settings snapshot from the clipboard. You can separately clear usage statistics, destination history, failed-command samples, or recent status history.
Additional keyboard shortcuts
In addition to Alt + V and Alt + H, use Alt + M to toggle spoken confirmations, Alt + D to open diagnostics, and Alt + S to jump to voice settings.
Custom shortcuts
In Advanced mode, you can create personal phrases for existing commands. BearCat prevents a custom phrase from replacing a built-in command. Custom shortcuts are stored locally on the device and can be deleted from the voice panel.
